A model-specific solder-free adapter for the NXP Killer NCF29XX cloning tool. Seat the key PCB, read, write, done - with no heat applied to an original smart key.

Soldering an original key is the risky part of the job
Reading an NCF29XX chip traditionally means putting an iron on a customer's original smart key PCB. That is slow, needs a steady hand, and one lifted pad turns a working key into a warranty conversation. A model-specific adapter replaces all of it with a clamp.
No heat on the original key
Spring-loaded pins make contact against the existing pads. Nothing is desoldered, nothing is reflowed, and the key goes back to the customer exactly as it arrived.
Seconds, not minutes
Clamp, read, write, unclamp. What used to be a careful soldering session becomes a bench operation you can repeat all day without fatigue.
Model-specific, so it actually lines up
Each adapter is cut for one board layout. The pins land where the pads are, which is what keeps the status light green instead of red.
Four steps from original key to spare
Open and identify
Open the original smart key and confirm it carries an NCF29 series chip. Chip marking is the reliable check, not model year.
Seat the PCB
Place the board into the adapter so the pins meet the contact points. Connect the adapter to your NXPKiller unit.
Read
Press read. A steady green light confirms the read succeeded. Red means go back and re-seat the board.
Write to the new key
Seat the replacement PCB and press write. A steady green light confirms the write. The spare is ready.
What the light is telling you
The status light is the entire user interface, so it is worth knowing exactly what each state means before you are standing over a customer's key.
Steady green
The operation completed. After pressing read, a steady green light indicates a successful read. After pressing write, a steady green light indicates a successful write.
Red during read or write
The circuit board is not aligned with the adapter. Lift the PCB, reposition it so every pin meets its pad, and try again. This is the most common issue and it is a seating problem, not a hardware fault.
Lights up, then stops responding
The power connection is unstable. Disconnect and reconnect the power, then repeat the operation.
Built for NCF29 series smart keys
The NXP Killer copies most smart keys carrying NCF29 chips. Adapters are sold per board layout, so confirm the adapter matches the key you are working on before ordering.
Chip family
NCF29AG is not supported. If the chip is marked NCF29AG, this tool cannot copy it.
Vehicle brands commonly covered
Coverage depends on the specific chip variant and board layout, not on the brand alone. Different vehicles need different adapters - one adapter is not universal.

PCB choiceUse an OEM PCB, not a universal one
When choosing a PCB for the cloned key, prioritise an original manufacturer PCB of the same model. An identical OEM board gives the best result for chip type, circuit design, RF performance and antenna matching, producing a key that behaves like the original. Universal aftermarket PCBs should not be used.
Rolling codeSell it as a spare, not a second daily key
Once cloned onto a compatible PCB, the copy is functionally interchangeable with the original. However, alternating between an original remote and a cloned remote on the same vehicle can cause rolling code desynchronisation, which can leave the remote function of one key inoperable. Recommend the clone as a spare key.
Land RoverUWB models need extra care
Cloning is possible on Land Rover. On lower-specification models the process is straightforward. On high-specification UWB models, cloning causes the Ultra-Wideband function to fail, and the vehicle's UWB function must be disabled beforehand - otherwise the vehicle will not recognise the cloned fob, because the onboard system needs a valid UWB signal to unlock and start.
MythThe "256 presses" story is not true
There is a persistent claim online that a cloned remote stops working after 256 presses. It does not. The key continues to function normally. What can still occur, as with any clone, is rolling code desynchronisation.
